First Assurance Company

First Assurance Company started operating in Kenya in 1991, after being formed from its predecessor, Prudential Assurance Company Plc, a British multinational Insurance Company. It also operates in Tanzania, offering a similar range of products and services.

Presently, it has grown to be one of the leading insurance companies in Kenya, underwriting a mix of general business, medical and life insurance. For the financial year 2015, it collected a total of KSh 3.8 billions for general business amounting to 3.4% of the total market share.

In 2015, Barclays Africa Group bought a controlling share in First Assurance, diversifying its banking business into the insurance industry.
In the same year, First Assurance company was awarded the Best Claims Settlement Award by BIAK, the association of Insurance Agents in Kenya.
