TESLA Unveils ROADSTER, FASTEST Car In The World

Car engineering is about to go a notch higher and this is after Tesla unveiled their latest car model. Tesla which was unveiled in 2003 is premised on the fact that electric cars can be fun, fast and good looking, even more than conventional cars built on the combustion engine.

Now under the stewardship of Elon Musk, Tesla is hell bent on making the world stop relying on fossil fuels and move towards a zero-emission future. This is through provision of entirely solar powered homes and automobiles.

Tesla have a set of cars under their wing which are causing ripples into the car market. The Model S for example has become the best car in its class in every category. Combining safety, performance, and efficiency, Model S has reset the world’s expectations for the car of the 21st century with the longest range of any electric vehicle, over-the-air software updates that make it better over time, and a record 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.28 seconds as measured by Motor Trend.

The Model X which they launched in 2015, the safest, quickest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history that holds 5-star safety ratings across every category from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

And to complete CEO Elon Musk’s “Secret Master Plan,” in 2016, Tesla announced Model 3, a low-priced, high-volume electric vehicle that began production and customer delivery on track in 2017.

It seems Tesla are not done yet as they are set to launch yet another car by 2020, a Sports car which is set to give the likes of Bugatti a run for their money.

According to Elon Musk, the new roadster the fastest production car ever made with speeds of just 1.9 seconds for 0 to 60 and 4.2 seconds for 0 to 100. It can handle a quarter-mile in 8.9 seconds. This is way fast as compared to the Bugatti Chiron which accelerates from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds and 0-100 in 5 seconds.

It also beats their Tesla Model S P85D the world’s safest 4 Door Sedan which goes from 0-100 KMP in a stunning 3.2 seconds and the all popular Porsche Cayenne which is found on Kenyan roads. It goes from 0-100 in roughly around 8 seconds.

Its top speed is above 250 mph. and it has a 200 kWh battery pack that offers 1013 KM of highway driving range. This is one of the fastest speeds we have thus far as compared to other cars we have In Kenya and across the globe. The Nissan GTR for example which is now starting to infiltrate Kenyan roads has a top speed of 196 mph and the Subaru WRX which is a favorite to many Kenyan speed lovers has a top speed of 155mph.

The best part in all this is the fact that it’s full electric and as you can see above, you can actually ride in the car from Nairobi to Mombasa and back without worrying about charging it. Actually even spare some power to go to Nairobi for a quick excursion or Sunday brunch.

And with the uncertainties that come with fuel price and distribution across the globe, you might want to settle for an electric car, which will definitely take over the future. The government has in its vision to have universal electricity by 2020 and thus they have invested in a myriad of projects to ensure this is achieved.

For example there is the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) project which aims to generate 2,036 MW of wind power, or 9% of the country's total capacity, by 2030 and also geothermal investment in various places across the Rift Valley.

Unlike many other sports cars, the new Roadster is a four seater and it’s available in 2020 for a starting price of KSh 2 million shillings. This is way less compared to the 300 million shillings price tag for the Bugatti Chiron which is a direct competitor. It’s even cheaper than a brand new Subaru Outback and many other cars on Kenyan roads which don’t come close to its impeccable performance.

And as the company pits it, the Roadster maximizes the potential of aerodynamic engineering with record setting performance and efficiency. Actually, there was even the potential for the car to fly in a later upgrade.

“Not saying the next gen Roadster special upgrade package *will* definitely enable it to fly short hops, but maybe … Certainly possible. Just a question of safety. Rocket tech applied to a car opens up revolutionary possibilities.” Elon Musk posted on twitter after the car unveiling.

The Roadster comes after Model S which is designed from the ground up to be the safest, most exhilarating sedan on the road. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.5 seconds and comes with Autopilot capabilities designed to make your highway driving not only safer, but stress free.
